Dre Bly Should Be Suspended
Dre Bly recently stated the Lions would not be in the situation they are in if Jeff Garcia had been the quarterback.
"One guy in particular ... is the cause of this whole thing," Bly stated on the NFL Network. “It's not hard to figure out. The quarterback here has been bad. He has not really gotten the job done ever since I have been here. I really believe Coach (Mariucci) would not have been fired if Jeff (Garcia) would have been healthy."
"Joey's been here four years," Bly continued, "and being the No. 3 pick in the draft, he hasn't given us anything."
Some of that is true and some teammates on the Lions feel the same way. However, in Harrington’s defense he has played for one coach who didn’t deserve to be a head coach, another coach who had no faith in him and never gave him a chance, a group of receivers with a lot of talent but awful personalities and work ethic, a non-existent rushing game and an offensive line that couldn’t start at Monroe High School.
Moreover, the last time I checked Garcia was throwing an interception to a Chicago Bears defender in overtime to lose the game and Mr. Bly was part of a secondary that let Chris Weinke and the Carolina Panthers move 80 yards down the field and score a touchdown in the final minute to beat the Lions 21-20.
Damn you Joey. How could you let that happen? Don’t you even know how to play the bench? You make me sick.
Mr. Bly is an idiot and a mediocre football player at best. How many times have you seen him intercept a ball and then try to pitch it to another player only to fumble the ball? Or how about intercepting a pass in the end zone and taking it out to only getting to the two-yard line instead of taking a knee in the end zone and starting the offensive drive at the twenty-yard line?
Now Harrington has not been a good quarterback. But he has also played for the worst organization since 2001. Furthermore, Harrington has handled his criticism and fans insults about his sexuality and toughness with class and dignity. He has never said a bad word about the Detroit Lions teammates, organization or fans. He has never said anything bad about the city of Detroit either.
Harrington responded to Bly’s comments to Detroit Free Press writer, Mitch Album.
"I'm not even going to dignify his comments by getting into a public arguing match,” Harrington said. “What I will say is what Coach Jauron told the team last night: As a team we have to stick together. Without that, at this point, we have nothing. I don't think those comments are appropriate for a teammate to make. I've never believed it's OK to publicly criticize a teammate. I've stayed away from that all season, and I'm going to continue to stay away from that now.”
"We've had a disappointing season. We are all frustrated and upset about it. But passing the blame is something that I have never done and I never will do."
Once again Harrington is classy. He plays his heart out every time he gets on the field, which won’t be this Sunday against the Vikings because interim Head Coach Dick Jauron told reporters today that Garcia would be the starter.
Dre Bly should be suspended for the rest of the year and let go before training camp next season. If you are not a team player and cannot keep those comments within the organization you do not deserve to play even for the worst team in the NFL since 2001.

I agree. TO got in tons of trouble when he called out his teammates. Why aren't more people outraged? Just because the Lions are losing doesn't mean some selfish people can start acting like assholes.
right on sister (literally).
we can start a joey fan club. you can be president. i'll be vice president.
Sorry. Fuck joey. I like Dre.
I don't think he should be in trouble for being the only one with enough balls to say something.
I am an outspoken person. I don't think you should necessarily call out teammates, but Joey shouldn't get off scott free because Mooch got fired.
Joey still has never done anything. He hasn't come close to showing any kind of promise like other top draft choices would be expected to.
Excuses have always been made for him. Yes, some of those excuses have been valid. Most of them not. Joey is not a tough competitor. Yes, he has some heart. Who wouldn't if their million dollar contract was dependant on it? Joey is likable. He looks good in front of a camera and can draw sympathy. That is the one and only reason that he still has a job.
I am going to start calling him Joey "white Akili Smith" Harrington.
very good points. he plays like a white akili smith and both went to oregon. so good analogy.
only difference is akili smith held out when he was drafted by cinny b/c he didn't want to play on a losing team. joey didn't care. he wanted to come to detroit.
you're right. joey has fucked up a lot and has gotten away w/ some stuff b/c of those excuses.
he is a competitor though. last year at minnesota he was shot up w/ iv fluids on the side-line b/c he had the flu. he threw 2 touchdowns and over 300 yards including one td that put them one extra-point w/in tying the game. then the lions missed the extra point.
however, there was also the green bay game from last year. he was like 9 of 22 or something for 22 yards. that's pathetic. that's something a seventh round draft pick shouldn't do, let alone the 3rd overall.
rogers was taken second overall and hasn't done anything except drugs.
maybe it's detroit.
the lions organization is a joke. they need to get rid of millen, bly and harrington. i still think joey has an up-side if he's in the right place, but maybe not. just gut this team and start over, b/c this stuff is more painful than just watching the games.
Sorry. I should learn that if I don't have anything nice to say, I shouldn't say anything at all.
Dre really pissed me off w/ his comments. I tells me that the Lions have completely given up, and probably can no longer work together as a team. Which means years and years of rebuilding, which i find hilarious, rebuilding from the worst team in the league, simply hilarious, but sad, very sad.
However, i think andy is a little hard on Dre as a player. He has been one of our best players for the last few years. I agree that he makes stupid mistakes (such as his ill advised lateral attempts, etc.); however,I believe these mistakes are due to our lackluster offense. As you know, some games it seems like the only way the Lions will score is if the defense does it itself. Dre tries to make big plays even bigger, but the bottom line is he does make a lot of big plays.
Even though I like him, his comments were riduculous. To me,
Mooch was fired b/c he lost control of his team. Teammates dont make comments like this when they are on a team the believe in. And since when if Garcia a fucking football god. He couldnt do anything in Cleveland. And he didnt move the offense any better than Joey. He lost the game against Chicago. If Joey had lost the game the same way, people would've called for his head. But, Garcia was given slack b/c he was just trying to make a big play. Bullshit.
Garcia isn't Detroit's savior. The Lion's problems are much deeper than the quarterback position (see Andy's blog).
And jon, you know i think you are too hard on joey, but he's not exactly a football god either. However, I still think he can make it as a pro quarterback. But, I hope he goes somewhere else. I like Joey, but, it doesnt make sense to stay in Detroit, unless he is a masochist.

chris you're so smart.
perhaps i was too hard on dr. dre. it's just that i don't like anyone whose full name only has two syllables, i.e. pol pot.
he has made big plays. and i prefer risk takers as opposed to people who just get beat b/c they aren't very good.
maybe a suspension isn't necessary, but a good kick to the jimmy certainly is.
I agree with everything Chris said. I'm mad at Dre, not necessarily for what he said, but for saying it at all. Say it in the locker room, that's fine. But to call Joey out to the nation does absolutley nothing.
Everyone knows I love Joey Harrington. So that's why I say Detroit should get rid of him. I think he can suceed in another atmosphere.
Knibb High Football Rules!!!
do you want joey to play for knibb high?
i agree with every thing you've said, but there's more.
Emily, Emily, Emily.
I don't want to be mean to you.
I can't wait until Joey goes to a different team (that is if any other team sees anything in him) only to fail.
Mark my words, I will be all over you telling you that I told you so.
JC vs. JH
the shit is jcooley. j-c-o-o-l-e-y.
harrington can't boast such a cool chant.
comparing jon's playstation stats (as quarterback of southeastern michigan state university tiger cats) to harringtons it is a joke. jon has thrown 70 tds and 7 ints. he has thrown for over 5,000 yards and has rushed for 3 tds. what has harrington done this year?
you might think playstation and real life are different, but consider this, if it's in the game, it's in the game. i don't know what that means.
i do think joey will be all right somewhere else too. but jon's right. who will take him?
